Oddly, as I was sorting through and uploading all the videos on my phone, the DIY channekl started macroblocking like mad. I had to unplug the phone from the laptop to try and catch it, unfortunately the channel locked up completely before I could catch the macroblocking on the channel. but if you look closely [...]

Of course it is, one of the perpetual problem channels the DIY channel decided to lock up after a quick bit of severe macroblocking. A few flips back and forth gives a blacked out channel, then out of nowhere it just works again. Of course the macroblocking continued after it returned from the lockup, but [...]

So what can you do on your columbus day holiday? Watch a bit of television, including some Jeremy, James and Hammond, Thats right, the entire Top Gear Marathon on BBC was going to be my holiday indulgence, instead  macroblocking, cutting out, dropping audio and locking up of one of my favorite shows was what was in [...]

Yes, that was a bit of macroblocking humor. Working with the technician who is running and monitoring the cricket had told me a few things. First he really did seem to want to help. Second, he also seemed to know what he was doing. However, I don’t think he was the owner of all the issues [...]

As mentioned previously, Time Warner has placed a device in the house monitoring the incoming signal quality for macroblocking, outages and other channel anomolies. As I said earlier this device only monitors and reports on the channels it is tuned to monitor. Here is one time that the device completely missed an outage, complete with [...]

In my postings I have mentioned this “cricket” before. it seems this device is supposed to monitor the incoming signal for quality, in turn when it notices signal degradation (macroblocking)  it throws a “signal loss” alarm. I am under the impression that when the alarm reaches a certain threshold the device “phones home” and passes [...]
